Ebony gives Kade the biggest bear hug. “Thank god Kade you had us all so worried, damn it why didn’t you know there was a storm coming?” she tells him angrily but more concerned.

“Don’t lecture me Eb, it was one of those things, even the water police said it came from nowhere,” he answers her somewhat annoyed.

“I’m just glad you are okay,” she adds and punches him.

They drop us back to my place. Kade rang his mother to let her know he is safe.

What a long arse day. Kade jumps straight into the shower and I throw my arms around him when he walks out. “Do you have any idea how sick I felt today, shit baby I don’t want to feel that way ever again,” I tell him emotionally.

“Me too Roxy, but I’m here now let’s go to bed I want you in my arms where you can stay forever,” he tells me blissfully. We are cuddling so close, it’s impossible to get any closer. It is less than a minute and Kade is snoring.

“Aww,” I whisper thinking of my poor sailor trapped out

there in the rain and I feel grateful that he made it home to me safe.

  Chapter 18

  The Wedding

It’s been two weeks since the buck’s weekend that ended in hell.

Kade was quiet and withdrawn for a few days afterwards, I guess it took its toll on him physically and mentally. But then he came around and went back to work, back into surfing and into his routine and craziness.

Saturday is February twelfth; Emma and Pete’s wedding day.

I have been dreading this day as Kade is in the bridal party so of course I'll be on some random annoying table, but at least Ebony and John will be there, thank god.

I feel so much better now that Emma and I have cut the crap and are now somewhat friends.

Well maybe not friends, I won’t be calling her for a coffee any time soon but it’s better than hating her. There’s nothing like the scare of losing a loved one to bring people closer together.

Emma now actually seems somewhat normal. In a bitchy, unsocial kind of way.

We have drinks and a pre-wedding barbeque Thursday night so it breaks the ice some more. Emma is jittery and nervous about how she will look, will she trip, the usual bride worries.

And yet I was sure she was too confident for all that shit.

Well it’s taught me not to judge a book by its cover, even if I did get up close and personal with a few chapters.

She even pulled me aside and apologised for her behaviour. “Look Roxy I am sorry about the way I’ve been with you, I’m protective of Kade and it’s because of his past with girls and his inexperience I was just worried he would get hurt. Now I see how much you and he love each other and I know you aren’t going to hurt him,” she tells me honestly and now the pieces fit. She then hugs me and it catches me completely by surprise that I jump. “I’m so happy for you guys,” she declares. Then she adds, “If you hurt him I’ll have to kill you.” Then laughs like a hyena. Oh wow did that really happen? But it definitely has broken the iceberg that threatened to sink the Titanic a few weeks ago.

I have to sleep alone Friday night, and I make the most of it by spreading out like an eagle. It is nice for a change, but I am glad it’s not a regular occurrence I love waking up to Kade and our morning romps, especially if he’s been out surfing. He comes back all salty, fresh from the ocean and it gets me hot just from the scent of him.

I get out of bed and grab a quick brekkie of vegemite toast

and a cup of tea, then jump into the shower. I washed my hair that afternoon before and straightened it to save some time.

Kade is picking me up at eleven to take me to his sister’s so I can go with them, thank god for that. There’s nothing worse than turning up to a wedding where you only know a handful of people.

I will be Nigel no friends tonight.

Kade is ten minutes early and makes me feel sensational with his comment.

“Wow you look ravishing my beautiful Roxy,” Kade tells me and looks me up and down then pulls me in for an embrace.

It's true I did look gorgeous, my long light brown hair, fresh with blonde highlights was softly curled.

My new layered cut makes it drop and curve around my face.

Silver diamanté earrings hanging down and my knee length royal blue dress fits me to perfection, with the sexiest split on the left side, showing off my thigh, thank god for fake tan.

The top of the dress is halter neck of course which shows off my uplifted cleavage, thanks to my wonder push up bra. Girls gotta love a good bra.

My make-up is heavier than usual with smoky eyes, very dark and sexy and pink lipstick with a shining gloss on top.

“You look hot yourself baby, very spunky,” I tell him kissing his lips.

He is dressed in a suit being the best man and all; black pants and a grey button up shirt with black tie and a black vest. His hair is spiked up with gel, freshly shaven and smelling edible in his new aftershave. “Mmmmm you smell so good too,” I tell him as I rub my nose along his neck. I instantly feel his arousal and smile pushing into him and now grabbing his hair.

“Shit Rox we can’t do this now,” he tells me very frustrated.

I laugh and say, “I know baby plenty of time for this...” as I grab his thickness, “Later at the motel.” I am so excited to be staying at the flash motel where the reception is at; it looks awesome with a spa bath and all.

I take a step back and adjust my dress and smirk at him, the hardness in his pants is pitching a tent. I laugh loudly. “Down boy,” I say. Kade laughs and adjusts his pants.

“Let’s go baby, the sooner this wedding is over the sooner I can have you naked in the motel,” he declares with that lustful look in his hazel eyes.

I grab my overnight bag and purse and head with him to his truck. I catch him perving on me and he questions, “You know baby if any guy tries to dance with you tonight I’m going to have to knock them out, why do you have to look so hot?” I smile, I love the way he makes me feel so special like I’m the only girl in the world.

Ebony is driving to the wedding, much easier as the church is twenty minutes from the reception.

She looks beautiful in a simple black v neck dress, dressed up with a blue necklace and earrings. “We both definitely like the colour blue,” I say to her and we both laugh.

We arrive at St. James’s Cathedral. It is beautiful, well I haven’t been to a lot of churches in my life, but this one is stunning. I had been to a few weddings and christenings. But none of the churches looked like this. There are glass pane windows all around with bright colours and as the sunlight shines in each one sparkles, it creates such a warm and romantic setting.

We take our seat on the grooms side and I find myself looking around at the guests trying to see if there may be anyone else there that I know. I know the groomsmen of course and Kade and actually I almost forgot about Johnno and Julia who I haven’t spotted yet.

There are a lot of guests; both sides are filling up, but definitely more on the groom’s side.

Looking forward I see my gorgeous man up the front looking so handsome and edible in his suit.

Shit I am a fucking lucky woman; I think to myself and then look around to see if any of the other chicks are checking him out. Hands off.

He sees me looking and smiles. The kind of smile that says I love you and only have eyes for you, instantly calming me. The flowers around the church are pastel pink and white and has me thinking of the general theme. I love Oriental Lilies, not just because of my middle name, but in more of a hot pink colour so that’s one flower I know I would have in my bouquet.

Even though it will be a few years before I contemplate marriage, it’s amazing how as a woman you already start thinking about the details.

The music changes to a beautiful melody that I’ve heard at other weddings. Ebony whispers, “This is the song I had when I walked down the aisle it’s called ‘Pachelbel’s Cannon in D’”. Wow it was beautiful, very romantic and perfect for walking
down the aisle.

Down come the cutest little flower girl and page boy holding hands first. “Oh they are adorable,” I say to Ebony. “I can’t wait to have nieces and nephews and kids one day.”

Then the first bridesmaid dressed in silver, looking stunning hair in barrel curls all up follows them. From what Kade has mentioned it must be her cousin Louise as matron of honour.

The next bridesmaid follows and smiles a nice beaming smile, very attractive and it has me wondering who Kade’s partner will be, hopefully not this glamour if she is single.

But damn she is gorgeous. Ebony must notice my expression. “That’s Kiah she is engaged and Kade only has eyes for you anyway lovely are you blind?” she tells me chuckling. It’s amazing how women can read each other. She makes me smile and I realise just how silly I reacted.

I see Emma approach the entrance, she is a stunningly gorgeous bride, no doubt about it.

Her long blonde hair is all swept up into barrel curls on her head; she has a fringe to the left with a diamond tiara.

Her dress has a heart shaped bodice with diamanté’s, all strapless with slight cleavage. Very elegant.

It’s a fitted dress showing off her curves, all in white. I see her shoes are open toed white as well, very pretty. Her earrings are diamond drops just enough without being tacky and too sparkly.

Next I notice her make-up is very traditional and suits her to a tee. I see her looking at Pete and when he sees her the smile on his face is priceless. That’s what it’s all about. If you can take your soon to be husbands breath away and make them smile like that you know it’s true love.

Her smile is so big and warm and I see a tear drop down her cheek. Her father has his arm linked through hers and I can see him trying to console her. I hear Ebony sniffle and know she is emotional about it as well. Damn what is it about weddings? I turn to Kade who is looking at me; I smile and get lost in his gaze. Oh that’s so sweet, is he thinking that could be us one day? What I would give to read his mind at this exact moment. He then looks down and to Pete, possibly a bit nervous of having the ring and the ceremony. At least I hope that’s all it is.

The ceremony is very traditional they say their vows, I do’s and when it’s Pete’s turn to kiss the bride he grabs her and tilts her head down for one very dramatic and romantic kiss. The church cheers. The bridal party signs the book and certificates and we all give our congratulations.

“You look stunning Emma. Congratulations,” I say enthusiastically.

“Oh thanks Roxy, I love your dress,” she tells me sweetly. Did someone give her a new personality?

Kade comes up behind me and cuddles me. “Hi,” he whispers.

“Hi yourself best man,” I whisper back vivaciously. He kisses my ear. Then he is gone. Cheeky bugger I think to myself.

We head over to the car to drive to the reception on the harbour; where else would you have it if your parents were loaded?

I already knew that this would be the wedding of the century and I’m not in the least bit wrong.

It is elegant and magical, beautiful and classy, not an ounce of cheap and tacky.

Everything matches down to the serviettes and place cards; I can see a lot of preparation has gone into each and every part.

The theme is pastel pink and white; both colours complement each other beautifully.

The pink rose centrepieces are just stunning, even the scent

is fresh and sweet, like they had been picked that very morning. The wedding table has pretty fairy lights for the background.

Emma’s cake is a three tier cake of course; only the best. She had told me one layer vanilla, one chocolate mud cake and the top was fruit cake. Apparently it’s tradition to save and freeze that one for your first wedding anniversary or first born christening whichever happens first. I guess that is sweet.

The bonbonnieres are cute white bags with pastel pink chocolate hearts. Attached is a white frosted tag with a personalised message: Thank you for sharing our special day. Love Em and Pete xx

Personally I love the name cards in silver and pink, seeing my name Roxy Thorne in those colours looked stunning, note to self to steal yours and Kade’s.

I really couldn’t fault a thing at all; the bridesmaids looked radiant in silver dresses, strapless with a silver necklace and pink drop zirconia. Hair up and make up very modern, smoky eyes, much like my own.

We are given champagne and mini quiches on arrival, and then we are asked to take our seats for the evening.

The first part of the night is the entrance.

“Ladies and gentlemen please give a round of applause for

the gorgeous flower girl Cindy and page boy Jack,” announces the wedding mc.

They are so cute, holding hands and they walk over to their tables and sit with their parents.

“Ladies and gentlemen please put your hands together for the head groomsmen Simon Bars and his partner and head bridesmaid Kiah Simpson.” The guests cheer as they walk in.

“Next up we have the best man Kade Thomas and matron of honour Louise Hall,” The mc announces again.

“Whoa,” I call out showing my affections for the best man. They have their arms linked together and walk in looking like a hot couple. God I’m glad she is taken as I would be jealous all night, she is a stunner.

“Now would everyone be upstanding for your new bride and groom. Ladies and gentlemen please welcome MR. & MRS. CONWAY!’” he yells out enthusiastically.

Pete and Emma walk in to ‘Celebration’ by Kool & The Gang.

The guests go wild. “Woo hoo Emma and Pete!” Johnno calls out sounding half-drunk already.

They walk out holding hands and raise their hands when they are announced. They look so happy and ready for a fun night.

“The waitresses are coming around with some appetisers, prawn cutlets with lemon and seafood sauce, spring rolls, mini quiches so enjoy everyone,” the master of ceremonies announces.

The background music is easy listening. I hear Chicago,

followed by U2 and good old Jimmy Barnes.

I grab champagne and glance over at Kade; he is enjoying the food and obviously the time with Pete chilling at the table. “So Roxy are you excited about the surfing comp?” Ebony queries me.

“Oh yeah I can’t wait, all this training thank god it’s all leading up to something,” I reply positively.

“Kade has always been a natural on a board,” John adds grinning. “Well on anything with water really; look at his boat and water ski-ing,” he advises me. “I believe he is a sure thing and it will be down to him and Corey Willis that’s for sure,” he points out to me earnestly.

I look up to see Kade walking over. “Speak of the devil,” I remark to him cheekily.

“I thought my ears were burning,” he replies and leans in to kiss me. “Sorry baby I know this is probably boring for you, I wish I could sit next to you,” he confesses whispering in my ear before pulling back to grin and squeeze my knee. I can smell the beer on him and know he will be a messy drunk by the end of the night. But I am happy for him to let loose and enjoy his best mates wedding.

“Kade your entree is here,” Pete calls out from the bridal table.

“I better eat baby so I can then get the speech out of the way before I drink too much and stuff it up,” he declares to me with a chuckle.

“Okay see you soon sexy,” I reply and pinch his butt playfully. He smirks and walks over to his seat.

Ten minutes later we are served our entrée. “Would you

like beef or chicken ravioli?” a young male waiter asks me with a bubbly voice.

“Chicken please,” I answer kindly. “Yum this looks delicious,” I remark to Ebony and I glance over to see her beef ravioli that looks just as good.

“Gotta love a good wedding, free food and drinks, what more can a man want?” declares John who is obviously reaping the rewards of the free beer.

They start to dim the lights on the dance floor and the dj puts
on the disco lights, a couple of teenage girls start dancing to ‘We like to Party’ (The Vengabus) while the rest of the guests are mingling at their tables, at the bar or chatting to the bridal table. Ebony and I go to the ladies to freshen up. I have my black glittery clutch purse and there was just enough room for my powder compact and lipstick so I reapply. We then head out to the bar where I grab another champagne, feeling it going to my head as I chat to the bar tender.

“Roxy isn’t it?” he asks me and I’m immediately puzzled. Where do I know him from? I look at him trying to put the pieces together.

“Yeah it is, do I know you?” I quiz him totally unsure of how he knows my name.

“We met one night at the Sweet Satire,” he answers me. Shit well that explains it; I was probably high and wasted.

“Oh yes that’s right, how are you?” I lie but ask him only to keep our conversation flowing and keep him unaware that I don’t remember him; being the slut from my past and all. “Well I better head back over looks like mains are coming out, nice to see you again,” I remark sweetly.

“It’s Adam,” he replies somewhat abruptly.

“Cool Adam I’ll see you later,” I answer and turn to head back to the table.

“Who was that?” Ebony queries me, obviously overhearing the conversation. Great.

“Oh he’s just an old friend,” I lie not wanting to go into details. Why does my past always have a way of catching up with me?

Main course is a choice between peppered steak or barramundi, I choose the pepper steak not being a huge fan of seafood but I don’t hate it either.

“This steak is mouth-watering Ebony,” I report to her moaning. “The fish is great too; this place obviously charges a fortune but delivers as well.”

I look over to Kade who is also devouring his steak; I knew he would pick steak. I am suddenly feeling emotional that I have to sit and watch him, he is experiencing a nice meal, nice music and I’m not by his side to share it. Maybe in the same room but not by his side...
